The 22-year-old Belgian cyclist Bjorg Lambrecht has died following a crash during stage three of Tour de Pologne.
According to reports, Lambrecht crashed out of the road into a concrete structure 50km towards the end of the race from Chorzow to Zabrze in Poland.
He was taken by a Helicopter to the hospital after the crash, there was a surgery but it wasn’t successful and the Belgian was declared dead on Monday.
Bjorg Lambrecht was considered as one of Belgium‘s most promising riders during his lifetime.
He was riding in the second season of peak level professional race before the occurrence crash in Poland.
Lambrecht acquired the under-23s’ version of the Liege-Bastogne-Liege race in 2017 and finished second in the U23 World Championships last year.
Condolence has been sent from his team Lotto-Soudal.
Pascal Ackermann, the fellow road racer who won the Tour de Pologne race said: “the result of the race doesn’t mean” “I was confused hearing today’s terrible news and I would like to personally send my sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Bjorg Lambrecht and everyone at Lotto-Soudal.”
