Official: Chelsea defender Davide Zappacosta has completed a loan move to the Italian side Roma.

Chelsea right-back Davide Zappacosta has completed a loan move to Roma from Chelsea until the end of January, with a possibility of extending the deal till the end of the season.

Zappacosta joins the Giallorossi from the Premier League club on an initial six-month loan that will runs till January 2020. As part of the deal, there is an option that includes renewing the loan deal until 30 June 2020.

It was understood that the 27-year-old has extended his contract with Chelsea, which will take him through to 2022.

Zappacosta returns to Seria A after he joined Chelsea for €25m in 2017 from Torino, he reunited with ex Toro director of sport Gianluca Petrachi.

The Italian wing-back said: “I’m glad to have landed at Roma after an acquaintance overseas that remarkably helped develop me, both a man and a player.”

He added: “It’s inspiring to play for a great club like this and I can’t wait to start playing alongside my new teammates.”

Roma sporting director Gianluca Petrachi said he’s happy to welcome Zappacosta to the teams, he’s confident Davide will be ready to deliver an extraordinary contribution during his loan spell at the club.

Zappacosta has chosen to wear the number 2 jersey for Roma.

He made 52 appearances for Chelsea, contributing two goals and four assists for the Blues.
