Real Sociedad confirm the signing of Spanish defender from Arsenal for a reported fee of £250,000 on a two-year transfer deal.

Monreal had started all three of Arsenal’s Premier League matches this season and his exit left the head coach Unai Emery with limited options to choose from at left-back.

Arsenal declared the transfer deal in a statement on their club official website bidding farewell to the player: “We would like to thank Nacho for his contribution to the club and everyone at Arsenal wishes him the best for his future.”

The 33-year-old contributed 10 goals plus 20 assists
and won three FA Cups and three Community Shields during his time at the Emirates.

Saed Kolasinac is the number one favourites to replace the Spaniard in the left wing-back position, though there’s one other alternative player that could play in the same position Kieran Tierney, signed for £25m from Celtic on transfer deadline day, but is yet to make his debut for the club due to a groin surgery, his considered as a genuine competitor for the position.

However, it was surmised that both Tierney and Bellerin are close to fitness, and would return to full training in September.

Kolasinac who is earning £100,000-a-week at the Emirates, having contracted from Schalke on a free agent transfer in 2017 and he has been fascinated since his arrival with his attacking courage down the left-hand side.

However, question marks persist around his defensive abilities, particularly when operating in a flat back four, and the Gunners require the Bosnia international to prove himself that’s good enough to remain at the club for the long-term.

Arsenal returns to action on Sunday as they welcome city rivals Tottenham to the Emirates stadium for the north London derby.

The Spaniard joined the club from Malaga in 2013 and played 250 matches for Gunners in his six-and-a-half-years at the Emirates stadium. Monreal started and played the full match in their 3-1 loss to Liverpool last week and Arsenal boss Unai Emery was contemplating on retaining Monreal for Sunday’s clash against Tottenham before permitting his move. However, with Kieran Tierney nearing a return to fitness, Emery confirmed the departure of Monreal and he has signed a deal with Real Sociedad until June 30, 2021.

The formal presentation will be held on Monday, scheduled to be sanctioned.
